Charleroi once used to be the heart of Belgiums thriving coal and steel industry. Now it is an area in decline, with high umemployment and delapidated factories. Readers of the dutch paper ‘De Volkskrant’ voted Charleroi as the ugliest city in Europe, and maybe the world, in 2009.
The line was never put into service and the stations have become ghost stations.
